Performing is not only a platform for storytelling, but is also a way to shine a light on others.
Singersforgood.org is an online platform to highlight and thank some of the nonprofit organizations I've recently been connected to either through performance or volunteer work.
Although singersforgood.org is not meant to represent all of the many organizations who do important work, it will hopefully serve as a place of positivity and inspiration for others to do the same.
Leslie
Leslie was the recent recipient of a grant and performance opportunity through the Mixtape Recital Series competition. Their mission is to "feed artists with enthusiastic support and funding for their most personal projects". The support she received resulted in a 2022 performance that included a world premiere of Leslie's first commission "Woman in an Ermine Collar" by composer Oliver Caplan and poet Ruth Traubner Kessler.
For Leslie's November 9, 2022 recital with Mixtape Recital Series, she asked that donations be directed to Family Promise Metrowest. This important organization "transforms the lives of families with children who are facing homelessness by mobilizing a diverse community to provide shelter, education and comprehensive support".
Leslie's volunteer work includes serving on the Board of the Juventas New Music Ensemble. This wonderful organization "shares classical music as a vibrant, living art form, and brings audiences music from a diverse array of composers that live in today's world and respond to our time."
